Google just came out with another Webmaster Guidelines update. This particular update is aimed at clarifying some of the algorithm updates that they’ve been pushing out more and more rapidly. The core message hasn’t changed so you don’t have to worry about changing up your entire automotive marketing strategy.
A handful of sections in the Google Webmaster Guidelines have been changed. Articles related to SEO and page optimization guidelines have been modified such as link schemes and hidden text. One of the highlights of this update is that Google has also added a set of guidelines for rich snippets. With structured markup gaining popularity this has been a long awaited addition.
Although there have been some significant additions and reorganization the core message of Google’s Webmaster Guidelines remains the same. Google stresses that your user should be your main focus and valuable content is still the main goal. As usual following Google’s guidelines should help you build a website that caters both to search and user experience.
Since Google has ramped up the frequency of their algorithm updates it’s more important than ever to stay on top of these guidelines. If you’re not paying attention it’s easy to get slapped with a ranking penalty and before you know it your site is buried on page 20. This is obviously a bit of hyperbole but being in the dark about even a minor issue could have an effect on your ranking.
